Finally, the day has come. It's July 11, 2015, and today is my first day of ShareIstria. A week-long adventure of exploring Istria is about to begin.
Marko Markovic (twitter, instagram), from Istria Tourist Board (IST), picks me up early in the morning in Umag with IST's cool black van to meet Goran Franinovic in Pula, who's also with IST. Drive from Umag to Pula is about 90 km via E751.
We park in Pula and meet with the other ShareIstria team, Lotte Wildiers from Resihonger and her husband David. We walk through the town center and eye shop in the fish market and the vegetables and fruits market. To my delight, I also discover a comic book stand as we enjoy and relax in the great atmosphere of Pula.
After the nice stroll through Pula town center, which included a beautiful view of Arena, we stop at Restaurant Kantina for lunch. The setting is cozy and the food is delicious.
Marko hands the truck keys to Goran and off we go with Goran to Velanera Hotel in Sisan where we'll stay for the next two nights.
It's still early in the day so we decide to hop on bikes and tour the coast of Sisan-Liznjan area.
The bike ride is a bit challenging because it is a long trail with rough roads, but so worth it! The sights are beautiful and water is crystal clear and refreshing.
We finish the day with a nice dinner at Velanera Restaurant. I'm not too hungry, and decide to get an octopus salad and few glasses of Istria's famous Malvazija white wine.
What a great start to ShareIstria!
